Come learn about the art of Sashiko mending (taught by Amanda Farrell aka Embroidered Panda), a beautiful and long time mending method that comes from Japan. Attendees need only bring items that need repair. The workshop will be held at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center and is sponsored by Stop Waste.

Sashiko Clutch: Two Part Workshop (online)
Learn the Japanese art of Sashiko and make this unique handmade clutch purse. Myself and Megan Avery (of M Avery Designs Studio in Hoboken) are teaming up to take you through making this unique project without a sewing machine.
In case you're not already familiar with it, Sashiko is a striking hand-sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. In Japanese, its name means “little stabs”—a reference to the plain running stitch that makes up Sashiko’s geometric, all-over patterns.
This workshop meets 2 times for a total of 4 hours (Dates: Oct 19 & 26, 7pm-9pm). In the first session, you’ll learn the art of Sashiko. You have until the next session to complete your Sashiko stitches, when we will assemble the clutch.
Cost of the class is $75 & all of the supplies needed to make the bag are included when you sign up. If we need to ship it to you, sign up at least a week in advance.
