Stick & Stitch Sashiko
Ages: 21+
Experience: No experience required.
Supplies: All provided! Just bring your favorite denim—whether it needs mending or you just want to give it a fresh new look
Price: $75
Join us at Cypress for a relaxed, creative take on visible mending using Sashiko, a traditional Japanese technique known for its bold, geometric patterns and simple running stitch .
Unlike our typical Sashiko class, this class focuses on hands-on stitching from the start, using pre-printed patterns. Instead of learning to measure and draw your own grids, we’ll be using stick and stitch, water-soluble patterns—just peel, stick, stitch, and rinse away. It’s an easy, approachable way to dive into the craft while still creating something truly beautiful and one-of-a-kind .
Whether you’re covering a tear, reinforcing a worn spot, or simply adding decorative flair, this process transforms repairs into bold design details—celebrating the story of your clothing.
Light snacks and bubbly will be provided by Cypress for participants to enjoy during the workshop.
What to bring:
Bring a favorite denim piece to mend or embellish—or better yet, come early and shop for the perfect project at Cypress. Their thoughtfully curated denim is ideal for stitching and makes a great starting point for your design.

Explore the blurred lines between everyday objects and artistic expression with a focus on fiber and textile art. In this rebellion against the distinction between Craft and Art, we invite you to experience the surprising and delightful diversity of these works, and marvel at the skill, the intuition, the knowledge and wisdom behind making. These fiber artists each create, in their own ways, something new from raw or recycled materials, intuitively and humanely imbuing them with beauty and authenticity.
